When Family Circle first met we decided we wanted our own mission statement. The only statement though that has stuck from week to week is that we want to learn how to be a part of unity. The bottom line is that Family Circle’s Mission is to learn how to practically apply UCC’s Mission Statement. We as Unity Christ Center provide a place where we can grow in awareness of our oneness with God and all that is, through the teaching and practice of Truth principles, while welcoming everyone in fellowship and love.
In keeping with our goal to provide a place where we can grow in awareness of our oneness, we have agreed that because some of us are quicker to speak and more long winded than others we must level the playing field. What we have agreed on is that everyone in each meeting gets the opportunity to equal time for sharing. We have agreed that we want to start the meeting 15 minutes after Sunday Service and end it at 1:00 p.m., because some of us have time constraints. We also agreed that we preferred 3-5 minutes in as many cycles as the number of participates allows.
Due to the time it takes to find unity in our decision making we have agreed that in order to have time for sharing, we will keep the format we have agreed upon, but we can address changing it each month 10 minutes after the our regular Family Circle meeting on the second meeting of each month. That means that starting at 1:00 p.m. each second Sunday we will address any changes we wish to make to the Family Circle format.
To some this being unified in the decision making process is frustrating, and for a while it is for us all, however, it helps us learn and apply the “Truth principles” we say is our goal.
As frustrating as finding unity is, we have all experienced how frustrating it is, not to find it. The question is, do we believe our mission statement is possible? If we do then we are embarking on an exciting adventure. First to find out who we as a family are, and second who we want to be.
